I’ve been here before
I once stood on the edge of a cliff
And I jumped off without a parachute
Because someone told me he’d catch me
When I fell and I believed him
//
He didn’t lie that time
He caught me alright
In a steel trap with jaws and teeth
That tore at my wings and heart
I bit my own hands off to be free
//
I now stare over another edge
This time I’ll make another choice
And turn around and walk away
Sometimes it’s better to trust myself
I’m worth more than this
//
He may not be lying
It doesn’t really matter
Let me down easy I say
Or don’t bring me down at all
And at least I can give myself a soft landing
