Poetry: Floating In The Air

floating in the air happiness is elusive

but in tiny flickers of light that break through

it’s a bit of a surprising twist of fate

or at least that’s how it feels when

i’ve been drifting so long and so afraid

candles and incense fresh and clean

belief in myself and others

i stared into the abyss and

landed on a cloud of cotton candy

i know who i am and those

flickers of happiness coalesce

to form a burning light of joie de vivre

and my hips swaying in the afternoon sun

dancing madly twist fate into

spirals of incense and candles float on the water

fingers to my mouth i blow a kiss

and it floats in the air no longer elusive

but waiting to be caught by whoever

touches my heart
