Poetry: Scalding

For Batman, who is in Oregon fighting not just the fires but the local flora as well.

Poison oak and burning flames

Scalding skin and lungs

The smoke is choking you

If I could breathe fresh flower-swept air

From the clear Olympic mountains to you

I would send every gust and volley

On the wind to you

So that you might stay well and breathe deep

My heart is with you

If not beating next to yours then

Beating a hummingbird’s wing

Sending you sweet aeolian things

Feel better soon,

Marie Athena
