Poetry: Rush of Feelings

The thing about love

Is that it comes with a shudder

Spilling into our lives and hearts

In a not-entirely-unexpected

But still slightly messy way

It’s always slightly awkward

That first rush of feelings

It might have been so that it was fantastic

And that it was the tension that made it good

Sunshine glinting off warm bodies

In mid-afternoon light under the canopy of trees

It’s finally some privacy

And falling hard after racing up the stairs

The thing about love is

We might joke about it

But it goes and goes and goes

Even when we wish it would stay
