Poetry: Juniper

Juniper berries on a christmas tree

Are little drops of you and me

Painful sprinkles of frozen blush

On a background of greenwood brush

Like tears that fall on my bedsheets

In an imitation of what my mind repeats

The berries make the lights shine so much brighter

They cast an ice-cold glow that only another fighter

Will pick up and see as they truly are

A gingerbread crumb trail that led so very far

From where I wanted to go and you led me astray

But in my heart still the Christmas carols play

And all I want for Christmas is you
